Dish TV touches 8mn milestone; targets 10mn landmark

Dish TV, country’s prominent player in DTH segment has overlapped 8 million subscribers milestone by adding one million new customers in past 6 months. The latest development has been informed by the company to BSE in a recent filing.

The growth on the front of Dish TV has also provided an idea about the Indian TV viewers’ preference in choosing the platform. Dish TV has registered a growth of 57% as compared to the last fiscal. Dish TV had closed last fiscal with 6.9 million subscribers, adding 1.8 million users during the year.

Dish TV, has managed to retain its premier position in Indian broadcasting space since it started its operations in the year 2004-05. Shares of Dish TV India gained Rs. 0.4, or 0.8%, to trade at Rs. 50.60. The total volume of shares traded was 246,064 at the BSE.

With this overwhelming success, Dish TV has exclaimed that now it has plans to add 3 million more subscribers in the current fiscal. If it gets real, the company would possess a giant subscriber base of 10 million in next year, more than any other player in the domain.

Till now, Indian market holds seven DTH players including Tata Sky, Airtel DTH, DD Direct, Sun Direct, Videocon d2h, Reliance Big TV and Dish TV.
