Discovery Networks Asia Pacific is mulling over introducing 5 new channels soon to facilitate Indian viewers with more life centric content. This intention of the network will ensure no.1 position for itself in the English speaking market of the whole region. Also, the addition of these five channels will strengthen its bouquet’s power up to a good 11 channels.
The company has plans of launching Investigation Discovery (emphasizing on investigating stories), a dedicated Military channel, Discovery Home and Health (focusing on female viewers), Discovery Kids (to woo children audience) and Discovery 3D.
The move of launching 5 new channels has come very soon after rolling out of Discovery Science and Discovery Turbo in January 2010. Also, Discovery introduced HD world foraying into High definition format.
Discovery seems to be zeroing in on subject/interest centric content and facilitating its viewers with specialized channels on those subjects. Exploiting maximum of subscriber’s interest is the key policy of network.
Rahul Johri (Sr. VP DNAP) said “The pay TV market in India is evolving at a rapid pace. With distributors being instructed to offer pay channels on à la carte basis, we see demand increasing for pay channels. We have applied for license to launch five more channels in the country.”
He further added “We are already developing 3D content for the US market. The channel will be launched there early next year. With the approvals in place, we would be ready to respond when demand surfaces in the Indian market.”
